Where is my music supposed to be located for iTunes to see it?

Where is my music supposed to be located for iTunes to see it?

I upgraded my iTunes and iPod to the most recent version. In doing so, I lost everything on both items. I have the music (and podcasts, videos) in folders on my computer but they are not seen by iTunes. Where do I have to move them to for iTunes to see it and put it in its library? Thank you.

try re importing them or highlighting each file and drag them to library
