My friend has a four-year-old female ferret. She has lymphoma and has recently developed a stomach disorder. She seems comfortable, but she has lost a lot of weight. Right now, if she loses any more weight, my friend's parents will have her put to sleep. If she seems like she's very uncomfortable or in pain, my friend wouldn't have a problem with putting her to sleep, but right now she's not, so we want to help her gain weight. She's on Carnivore Care already. Any other ideas?

I know the PERFECT recipe for her! It's called "duck soup" and it's a highly nutritious treat that is high in protein and fat. Here's more info about it and a recipe: http://www.ferretfacts.com/k1dusoreimof.html . You can give it to her everyday as it's 100% healthy and can only help. I've also read that a little bit of whipping cream can help put weight on a ferret.

I'm not familiar with Carnivore Care food, never heard of it. Here is a food chart that is very helpful: http://everythingfert.proboards36.com/index.cgi?board=kristen&action=display&thread=1109195167 . Any foods that rate a 1 or 2 are excellent choices. You want something high in animal protien (NOT plant) and high in fat.

Good luck with her!

Is the ferret getting veterinary care? If not, this is critical.

There is a recipe for a high nutrition food supplement called 'duck soup' in many places if you search google or any other web search tool. It is not made form duck, that is simply the name of the person who first developed it. It is high calorie and ferrets usually love it! I would recommend this. It is best made homemade.

Try high fat food and treats. A good food that I used with an underweight furry was Wysong Archetype I. Cruel fat as a minimum of 28%! Treats, even though should be still limited, is another great way. Avoid dairy and sugar items. Pealed seedless grapes are nice to boost a little energy and help the little one want to eat.
