has anyone ever been and actually seen these children? Has anyone here helped these children, 1 on 1 before?

If I wanted to go, and help, is there a program I could sign up too? How do I help these children??!! I am just a student and don't have much money, but I can help, I know it.

DO NOT TELL ME to save children in my own country. I live in CANADA not the USA. There are not tens of thousands of children in Canada, with those bloated tummies, and no food for months. So, if you are not going to answer my question, then don't both answering at all. Thanks

I am African from Kenya and my country is on the list of the countries where people have been starving to death. Most of kenyan parts is dry especially the Northern part of Kenya, the region is completly dry (semi desert) and people only depend on livestock(ideginous livestock) for their livelyhood.
Not just food water is the worst problem, they walk for miles to fetch Dirty (not treated) water for their use.
If you get well connected to the right people you can save the present and future(children) generation.
I think you can help by strating a programme/project on food security and water conservation for both, human and animals, i have long been thinking about this because this can be possible if rain water could be harvested and fooder secured for animals during the wet seasons. This water could be used for irrigation and for safe drinking water and when the pasture is green harvested and kept for livestock. Tthis is a long term solution but if you send money somebody might take the advantage.
With a genuine reason please contact me and we discuss more on this. I have a proposal already may be i could send you and we work on it if you like it.
I work for a safari (tours and travel) company. sopon-safkey@excite.com or imbene@yahoo.com

Ok here's the thing. I'm a white African grown up and living in Africa, at the moment in Malawi. I'm working for a safari company thus get a chance to really get to know the country and the people. There's hundreds of NGO's and voluntary services going on. These people all is trying to help as much as possible, but unfortunately too many of them is thinking that money can change the world.
If you really want to help then I suggest that you come to Africa, see what it's like, then decide what's going to be best for the people, but more importantly for you! According to me the best thing that someone like you can do is to do voluntary / semi-voluntary work like teaching, nursing or community development.
I hope this helps, whatever you do, pls don't give money to some place where you're not sure it's going to.

I spent a few months in Kenya, South Africa and Egypt.
It's hard to comprehend that what we take for granted The poor there view as impossible to achieve.
Imagine waking up in the morning and getting in line so your family will have water to drink?
You're intentions are indeed noble but you're setting yourself up for loads of heartbreak. You can't help these childrem 1 on 1 because whatever you give them will be shared with siblings if it isn't taken from them before they get home.
Unless you have the qualifications that will do some good like Doctors without borders or some such relief group, I suggest you focus on something like save the children's fund.
Good luck.

Why do you have to look so far? Look around you.. there are lots of places where you could help by volunteering like Give Kids The World and such.. Also local orphanages, shelters many..many places need your help. And a lot of them they won't cost you a dime just your precious time and energy. I agree that those hungry children on the TV needs help but so does the children in your own country. There's an old saying that goes " You don't see an elephant by yourside but an ant across the ocean you notice".....add on: so you're telling me that those children out there in CANADA that need help are not worth helping just because they got outnumbered? Please....

With more people like yourself, we might eradicate all poverty and starvation. Thank you for the fact that you care.

The biggest problem that people like yourself face is:
1. Travel cost to Africa
2. Being able to 'really' make a difference. You attitude is great, but the need even greater.

The best way is to try and work with a program that is already established, so that your efforts can be used for best benefit. Contaxt groups like Oxfam, Habitat for Humanity etc. and ask them where you can help.

Thenks for your help.

What a little twit you are. Don't you know you can't censure who answers your question? Grow up first. How can you help anyone when you are already dictating your will upon others and showing your immaturity. And, without the U.S., Canada wouldn't be able to sit back and relax. Learn.
