Well, there are huge mid-term elections coming up. The oil companies are cooperating with their politician buddies to keep them in office. The prices will spike back up the day after Election Day.

Does anyone here really think that President Bush can raise or lower gas prices at will. If you do think that one person can do this you are not using the superior intelligence I expect from the people who answer these questions.
The reasons gas prices are down are 1) Summer driving season is over 2) Tensions in the middle east are done insuring that the supply of oil will remain steady 3)We have a surplus of gas because of improving conditions and few hurricanes This is called the law of supply and demand. If you have more than is being demanded the price will drop and if you have less than is demanded than the price will rise.
In other words the November elections have nothing to do with this and neither does President Bush.

Gas prices are decreasing due to upcoming elections, which tells me we've been getting ripped off all along. If prices can decline at the drop of a hat, why were you charging me SO much for the past year or so? This is just another example to me of how this government serves corporations and not citizens. I find this utterly shameful.
Yes, gas prices will go up again, right after November elections, and the "cause" will be unrest in Iraq, worries over Iran, increased use for winter heating, blah, blah, blah. You can already hear it coming...

I don't know about you but I am a little sick of gas prices in general since here in Michigan, you drive by a station at noon and it is $1.99 and when you come back around in 2 hours, because you went to the bank to get money to buy it or you couldn't stop right that second, it went up to $2.10-in two hours-they are playing head games with people. Will it go back up you ask??? YES!

that's no longer going to bypass down till some thing differences it quite is drastic. Or quit the stupid conflict we could continually have not in any respect been battling... I recommend, actually, if it receives a lot more suitable..i imagine there'll be alot of rioting and what no longer...human beings can not manage to pay for it and different authorities individuals are transforming into prosperous and others are going broke and dropping residences... that's truly unhappy that the U. S. is in this condition. large PRESIDENT we've!!! he's a jackass.....

There are a couple reasons:
1. Summer is when people do the most traveling.
2. Some of the oil producing countries where having war or civil unrest. Going into these winter months some of those tentions are easing.

I heard on the news it had something to do with a surplus of gas that they had reserved for hurricane season but since it wasnt so bad they were able to lower prices.. I think its has to do with the elections personally.

According to the media:(who knows whats true anymore) the middle east is finding more reserves of oil, and we have fixed some of our oil rigs in the gulf.
It probably will go back up, but we should consider ourselves lucky, europe pays $6!
