It was the tale with the moral of 'Nobody gets left behind'. I think it was a sprinting competition, and one of the racers fell and burst into tears. The other sprinters felt sorry and all turned around to help the fallen up and cross the finish line together. Was it based on a true story, and where and when did it occur?

The Special Olympics. (Sporting events for developmentally-challenged people.) The audience cheered, and quite a few eyes did not remain dry.

Gotta tell a quick story, though. I went to a school for handicapped children. We were racing in PE, and John fell (he had cerebral palsy, and was spastic), so I stopped to wait for him to get up. The hook of my artificial arm got caught in the radiator grate, and he won. Rather than cheering, everyone laughed and teased me. I am over 50, and I remember it as if it were yesterday. I cried half the afternoon!
