You need to train sport specific. It's all about what type of energy your body uses. In the shorter distances like the 100 or 200, it is all about your ATP storage. That is energy that lets you perform immediate, high intensity activity. This only lasts about 10-15 seconds. To train for this, you need to do quick sprints of short duration and allow a full recovery in between. If you go to the gym, power lifting is the best. For longer distances, once the ATP runs out in the first 10 seconds your body starts needing oxygen to produce energy. his is where you start to breathe deeper and it becomes a little harder to run. This type of running requires more endurance training. That is long distance running (or cardio) workouts, with little to no rest in between. This will help train your body to accept the oxygen more readily and produce the energy with greater ease making you able to run for longer without becoming fatigued and slowing down.
Hope this helps!

Running long distance can make your short distance actually much faster. As well as doing interval training (running a sprint as fast as you can, then walk, then do it again). Doing ab workouts and push ups will also help you become a better runner. Running involves your whole body! Not just your legs. Also make sure to practice your starts because those are key to having a good race. Make sure you have good running technique too. Relax your shoulders and arms and don't look at the ground when you run, keep your eyes on the finish line. Doing all of these things should increase your running skill! I hope this helps you win!

The only exercise to help you increase your speed is to keep pushing yourself to run faster.

Just run, buddy. It doesn't get better than that.
