My Vauxhall Vectra has a few niggling problems. Every so often the electronic manager warning light comes on. It disappears when I switch off the engine, and may not re-appear for weeks. Also, on several occasions the car has cut out on me when driving slowly. Finally, the car sometimes has difficulty in starting when the engine is warm or hot. I’ve had the car tested by our local Vauxhall garage, but they can’t find anything wrong. If anybody can suggest anything to help, I’d be extremely grateful.

Common with Vauxhall vectras. However, when the engine light has come on it stores the fault in memory so the Vauxhall garage should at least know what sensor/s have been triggered. Its probably just a faulty sensor which can cost £50 or £500 depending on which one. Try another Vauxhall garage or a normal garage with a plug in computer. Hope this helps.

The engine having problems starting could be due to the engine temp getting too hot. Check that the temp gauge is actually working as it should (commonly missed) - the thermometer could be damaged or broken. Also, hard to spot with an external 'check', ensure that coolant flow isn't being blocked/stopped from actually flowing and cooling the engine properly!
I had a similar problem with a car (garage didn't pick up on it) and it burnt out a cylinder ....... couldn't be repaired!

Some times a flight data recorder is used plugged into the Data link when a malfunction happens it recorded two minutes prior and several minutes after the incident. Know ing how bad battery terminals can get and the first body ground that gets loose check and clean those first.

Your dealership should have recorded the fault code it will have on as your ECU light has been on.It is possible to reprogramme your ECU with a new software down load from Vauxhall that should over come your problems. It is more likely you have a faulty crank position sensor this is very common on vectra.Regards Mick.

You don't say how old the car is, I had a similar problem with a 1992 Mercedes, turned out the ECU was faulty, only cost £100 for a replacement now it runs perfectly. You might find a scrap ECU for little money to swap over and see if it solves the problem.

I recognise some of what you are saying. Look to 'electrical' rather than 'mechanical'. Engines have an 'earth strap' check this. or , check the main distributor (not the distributor cap) , it may cost you though. It could also be a 'worn cylinder-head gasket' (where your coolant enters the cylinders themselves) Intermittent problems are a pain in the neck eh?

common egr valve - needs to be cleaned or replaced - depends on year or model - when the light comes on - get the car to a diagnostic computer asap - after about 20 starts if the fault does not return it will clear -
