Well the only thing I can say is that poaching animals makes the number of animals in a species drop dramatically in a short amount of time. Considering how much money that poachers can make, the animals simply dont have enough time to replenish thier numbers.
I can't think of any pros to poaching...

Poaching in poor regions of the world such as Africa can bring much needed money to local economies. It can provide food and clothing for individuals who are too poor to purchase it otherwise. When faced with starvation or killing an animal, I am sure the majority of people would opt to kill the animal and forget about the long-term effects.
However, this is not sustainable and eventually the wildlife population will be decimated or faced with extinction. If populations become too low, then a bottleneck effect occurs. Meaning a few remaining individuals are responsible for continuing the species line (e.g. inbreeding occurs). This is what has happened to the cheetah.
In the long run, poaching is extremely detrimental to wildlife and ultimately to humans. Although the poacher may gain money or food for a day, the next generation will starve if the wildlife populations are hunted to extinction. Poaching contributes to higher extinction rates, which in turn causes more problems because that wildlife species played a role in maintaining a healthy ecosystem. With the population gone, then it can indirectly lead to the extinction of other species. Google keystone species for more information.

Poaching for the pot, I have always understood but poaching can and is big business. The poaching of salmon and sea trout in Irish rivers almost decimated those fish out of the rivers. It had become very big business with the poachers supplying the hotels. Thankfully, it is now being monitored more closely with very substantial fines being imposed by the courts. A slight variation in and around London, UK, is the poaching of fresh water fish from fisheries. Because of the large numbers of fresh water fishermen here, the lakes are stocked with large carp, tench, pike and such but the principal is not (or at least, would not appear to be) understood by the large influx of Eastern Europeans who have a right to reside in the UK, from the extended European Union. They are wiping out some fisheries by foul hooking, netting the fish and taking them home to eat. It is costing a fortune to replace those fish, some of the carp are worth £500 alive. To take the debate further, the poaching of wild animals in Africa in many cases just to remove the gall bladder for Chinese medicine is a crime that must be tackled. Some of the animals involved are now on the verge of extinction. It took many years to ban the trade in ivory which has resulted in a considerable reduction in the poaching of elephants. The same must be done for those currently being poached...........

There are no pros. There is only cons. Poaching is not legal any place I know of. Poaching means illegally capturing or killing animals. It is not good for anyone.
