It can be divided up into four major components which are:
• Red blood cells (the little guys who carry oxygen around to
the body cells)
• White blood cells (your body's defence mechanism)
• Platelets (these help blood form clots)
• Plasma (where all the proteins live)

Red blood cells and white blood cells. Red blood cells carry oxygen around the body, while white blood cells combat infections and viruses.
Another main component is plasma, which is basically a liquid to carry the red and white blood cells in (I think, not so sure on its purpose).

The four major parts of blood are:
Red blood cells. Job = transport Oxygen
White blood cells. Job = defending against pathogens (foreign objects) like viruses and bacteria
Platelets. Job = clog leakages (cuts) so that we don't loose blood and keep pathogens outside the body
Plasma. Job = liquid medium to carry the other cells.
By mass and volume, the two main components are plasma and red blood cells.
All these parts are important, but arguably the two most important components are red blood cells and white blood cells.
