1) It is not possible to go back in time.

There are many reasons for this, chief among which is the "Paradox".

One common example of this is the "Grandfather Clause"

Say for example, you went back in time and killed your father or grandfather. He would no longer exist, so techincally, neither could you because he never had you. So, you would just vanish from being, which is impossible in itself.

Secondly, if you did not exist before you were born, you can't travel to a time before that because you wouldn't exist in that time, again, you'd vanish.

There is an excellent story out there. A company goes back in time to kill an animal that is about to die anyhow. They kill it moments before it is going to die, therefor, they did not alter anything.

On one trip, someone accidentally steps on a butterfly. They go back to the present time, and the entire world is different. Why?

Say that butterfly, which is now dead, was to be the meal of a bird. That bird, would have choked to death on the butterfly and fell out of the sky where a fox would have found it.

That fox never found the bird, so the wolf that was going to eat the fox never got the fox.

The wolf never got the fox so it went somewhere else and the human that was going to kill the wolf never got to kill the wolf, so he did not get his new wolf skin hat, caught a cold and died.

This guy was going to be the one who started a long line of family members, one of which invented electricity, who is now no longer there...etc etc etc. Won't bore you any more, but I hope you get what I am saying.

The simple answer is no.
Forget earlier answers about paradoxes etc. They are things that would happen (and obviously confuse things) if one did travel back in time not a reason for it not being possible.

When speaking of time travel, you have to remember that time is just the passing of events. Once it's gone, it's gone! You cannot re-create the entire universe as it was several seconds ago. You could, however, seem to travel forwards in time. Very high speed travel slows things down sufficiently for you to notice that when you return to a normal speed or back to earth etc, things haven't changed as much eg a light speed flight lasting for what appears to you as several days could result in you returning to earth to find everyone has aged 5 years (numbers used as a demonstration with no calculations having been used). This would appear to you as if you had travelled 5yrs forward in time.

Absolutely, there are many examples of quantum phenomena that had an effect on time, however those are limited to processes that happen to particles and waves at way smaller than an atom phenomena.
The time you are aware of is directly proportional to the function of speed and motion you live in and inverse to the square of the speed of light... in other words if you live in a fast track of motion say for example 270 000 km/sec, after 8 years of dating and going to clubs, when you get down from your ship, you will find that the girlfriend that left you for another dude before you left in this trip, now is nearly 20 years older than the day you left it. or should I say you are now 12 years younger than she is now... and therefore you are better off dating her kid sister hehehe :)

Now another example of time effects is when you travel near to a star that had reach the Chandrasekhar and explodes, there are some powerful "time waves" if I could borrow that term from your favorite science fiction writer hehehe... or for example if your trajectory of motion take you in and out the event horizon of a black hole...

The idea is that if you travel fast enough you may get home before you live, and therefore still enjoy the last episode of the Flying Nun even after you just saw the finale of Season 10 of star gate. :)

The paradox i a interesting philosophic exercise, but lets face it, you could very well had no way to interact with matter that exist in a slightly different time zone even if you share the same time zone at different phase of spin, what I mean is that you may exist but have slightly different phase of spin with yourself, making impossible for you to actually have eny effect on the time zone... only God knows.
