I was on different pills for 9 years which generally agreed with me. I was having extra bleeds and wanted to try something different. I was living in Ireland at the time and went to the doctor who recommended I try the patch. It is called Evra transdermal patch and I have had no problems with it. I think it is quite a new contraceptive. It is handy if you are prone to forgetting to take your pill. You get 3 patches in a pack. You wear each patch for a week and 1 week without (this week is when you get your period). You place 1 on your skin around torso, upper arms or top of thighs. The glue contains slow release combined hormones. Apparently the hormones do not go through your liver like pills would. I have moved back to Scotland and haven't been to the doctors to get more yet so I'm not too sure on the availability as it was expensive in Ireland but I'm sure you will be able to get it on the nhs-I hope so! If you are not happy with the other alternatives I suggest you give it a try Good Luck!

Lots of women have the coil who have not had children-I was offered it by my doctor as i also suffer from heavy periods (not nice are they?). I decided against it as it can cause all types of nasty side effects. You do not say where you are in the world but in the UK you could also ask about Transexamic acid tablets which helps with periods (Recommended). However if you are really suffering (and do not want/can't have children) you could also enqire about endomytrial ablatian-a surgical procedure which will sort out teh heavy periods for good. Do not put up with them. pester your doctor until they come up with the right answer for you. Condoms should also not split if used correctly. you are still very young and seemed to have rushed into sex very early so may need to mature a liitle more and look at your options (by the way the person who suggested withdrawal method really should take a more mature look at contraception as that is very risky).Good luck.

I'm going to use the IUD after I have this next baby (pretty soon). I'm allergic to all kinds of contraceptives and I'm sick of being pregnant all the time. :) Condoms broke this last time and I got pregnant after having my daughter 5 mos previously. The IUD will be good for 5-10 years depending upon what you get and yes they are costly but to really think of it, so is birth control if you add it all up, the IUD is only a couple hundred more than the pill, ring, patch, etc. and you don't have to worry about remembering it.

I've also had several problems with all the types of birth control. My body won't accept the hormones or either it makes my hormone levals go up too high. This may be what's happening to you. They have several low dose pills, i would not reccommend the shot, the patch, or the nuvaring. I got pregnant on the nuvaring and ended up having a misscarriage in my eighth week. Condoms are the safer answer, but if you have sex multiple times a night, or even every day then they can cause irritation.

I have the same problems. The pill, patch, and ring made me ill.

You can try spermicide, condoms, a diapragm, or the cap. None of those should make you sick although spermicide can be irritating to some.

If you are really dedicated you can try the natural family planning method. If you decide to look into this buy the book "Taking Charge of Your Fertility." It has great instructions in it.

I would sit and have a talk with your doctor about your options. Good luck.

I have the same problem. I don't use any hormonal method of birth control and have not gotten pregnant in over three years. If you have fifteen minutes before sex, I use vaginal film. It takes that long to dissolve. I, personally, use the calendar method. I am very in tune with my body and know when I'm ovulating so I can either use the film or just abstain. I also have a program on my pda so i can check where I am in my cycle before things get too far.

Change your Doctor. If still not much help, visit Family Planning. Mind you, I hope they have changed since 30 years ago - I was given a dozen condoms, which was their idea of "three months supply." The look on the Doctor's face when I said "they'd only last a week" was worth any embarrassment.
Seriously, stick with condoms until you find something that is comfortable for you.

Wear condoms. You could get your tubes tied or he could go and get snipped. That way you don't have to ever worry. Unless you want kids down the road. Then it'll cost a heck of alot to undo either of those.

I've had the same problem. I tried a few different pills before finally finding one that suited me. The combined pill was what caused all the trouble. I now use the mini pill (P.O.P), one called Micronor, and it's fab. No problems with it at all.

I'm on the nuvaring and i've never had a problem with it. It gives you a low dosage of the female hormone so you wont release an egg. Its been the easiest bc i've ever been on.
