It seems that there is a severe lack of respect in this country. If people had more respect for people and property, things would be a whole lot better.
I want to know YOUR views.....

As mentioned by one reply, I didn't mention that I am from the UK. However, I think that respect is a worldwide issue.
ESPECIALLY religion! All religions should set an example and respect other religions!

Yes, absolutlely. That would be nice. I think something happened in the last half of the century when people got carried away with the very necessary implications and applications of human rights, civil rights, women's rights, etc. Just got CARRIED away. Having a right or a priviledge to a small minded person means that you can now demand respect and disregard others. I cannot stand the disrespect I see, especially in the media, for example. Ever notice how years ago, the press NEVER referred to President Clinton as "President," or "The President," or "Our President?" I DID! He was ALWAYS, "Mr. Clinton." Well now that he doesn't hold that power he is "President Clinton." We pay for our lack of respect in ways that we will never be able to measure. Yes, it is so unfortunate.

You get harsher sentences for crimes involving property than you do for crimes against the person in the UK on the whole i would say.
I told a child off once for running through a flowerbed that i had just forked over. She ran to her mother who went to see the headmaster who ensured that i never looked after another flowerbed on the schools contract. My employer transferred me to the cemetary contract.
I went on a short break to Belgium with a 3-year old recently. Shopkeepers AND shop assistants told her off when she was misbehaving in their shop. It was great. She don't listen to me in shops in the UK because she knows the shopkeeper or shop assistant won't tell her off.
Adults don't teach other people's children respect in the UK because the system won't allow them.
At the end of the day it don't affect the ruling classes because they can afford for their children to grow up in the bubble of private education.
So nothing will change.
It's gonna be hell when mine start school and starts to adopt the local effing and blinding school culture lingo. Thinking of emigrating personally.

yes, particuarly from teenagers. we seem to be living in a society where lack of respect and manners is evident in everyday life. it is almost as if certain people don't care about anyone else but themselves. i think things such as the national lottery are to blame- this so-called 'get rich quick culture' has driven people down the path of believing that money, in particular is the solution to everything. standards in britain have slipped to an all-time low- yet nobody is prepared to take accountability for their own actions these days. R.E.S.P.E.C.T- these were the famous initials once echoed by aretha franklin in her record. find out what it means to me'. well what it means to me is exactly that: respect but its something that a vast majority of people, especially some teens and young kids who are being disobedient and a pain to handle, are unwilling to take on board for their own good, as well as everyone's good too.

Definitely - I blame all this crap on the "do gooders brigade" in consort with the "politically correct twats"

A little discipline when young goes a long way, so does communication for that matter - people don't talk anymore - why? because they are scared of being sued for anything

Bring back the belt in schools and National Service. Children are not taught respect at home and teachers have no way to disciplin children at school, so they know thay can get away with anything.

You have not mentioned the 'country' you talk about, ignoring that this Yahoo/forum is multi-cultural. Yet, some members have alluded this to Muslims. Can't help. . . if someone smells a rat everywhere.
