When I was in 7th grade the Challenger exploded. After that everyone said that it was going to be our "When JFK was shot." meaning a point in our history when our generation all remembers where we were when it happened (or we first heard about it). Every year there used to be a memorial in all the newspapers about it, but I don't think I have seen any since 9/11.
Not taking anything away from 9/11 but now 9/11 is being called the "JFK of our generation".

Two different trajedies. Challanger was not a foreign enemy that tried to hurt us. 9/11 was a foreign enemy that deliberately tried and was successful in killing thousands of innocents. I remember asking my daughter to turn on the news and when I came in I said to her that I had asked you to turn on the news, not one of these stupid airplane movies, When I saw that it was the news, of course, I was shocked as was the world. One hundred years from now no one will remember the challanger but 9/11 is a day that will live in infimy.

The whole concept of labeling these things annoys me. Each thing was what it was. JFK was JFK. Challenger was Challenger and 9/11 was 9/11.
