Several questions come to mind. First, what is wrong with your car? Is the shop busy? Are the parts needed for you vehicle available or did they need to be special ordered? Has the car been checked out and you given an estimate yet?
If the shop is busy, and / or there is a problem getting the needed parts, there could easily be a delay in the repair of your vehicle. I know of some shops where a week's delay is not uncommon at all. Some shops are so busy that you need to schedule routine service several weeks in advance.
Other shops have mechanics standing around with no work most days. There is a reason that the busy shop is busy. People look for a good mechanic and a fair price. that mechanic will have more work than he can handle. The shop that rips people off, and does lower quality work is usually the one that people avoid. If there is no work in the shop, especially if the shop has been in business for a long time, you can bet that it is due to problems!!

If I were you, I'd find another mechanic to take my car to even if that meant having my car towed to another place, because if he's putting off fixing what's wrong with your car now, imagine what he might do when he intends to fix it, i.e. take short cuts to get the job done quicker instead of doing it right and taking the time to do it. Then again, he might just be busy with a back flow of cars that need to be worked on before yours came to the shop. You might want to check with the better business bureau in your area to see if he has had any complaints against him. If so, get your car out of there and don't authorize him to make any repairs to it and find a reputable mechanic to work on it. Best of luck to you and I hope this advice helps.

It would be easier if you explained what the problem is, has he lent you a car in the meantime? If not then that is a real pain, I guess since you describe him as your mechanic you've had work done by him before and trust him, if not take the car elsewhere and get an estimate before you leave the car with them.

I would be trying someone else next time..Take your time and look around for a reliable person, hopefully before the car needs to be fixed again..

Most good mechanics do have very busy schedules. If you just dropped it on him, and did not schedule it, then yes he may have others ahead of you.
