It is never too late to start. There are adults who just started too! Depending on your location and which school you choose, you can ask for which class would be in your age range. Either that, or if it's like my school (Mt. Kim) you can join the family class with adults. The difference between karate, judo, and taekwondo: -Judo and Karate are Japanese, Taekwondo is Korean, which will determine which type of culture you would be put in. For me, since I do taekwondo, I have to learn some words in Korean like counting, terminology, etc. -Judo is mainly grappling, which is a type of wrestling in Asia (in this case you may feel awkward because there is a lot of contact, but everyone eventually get used to it), where as Karate and Taekwondo use the hands and feet to strike and opponent. -Karate and Taekwondo both have techniques for hand and foot, but Karate focuses more on the hand techniques and Taekwondo is more focused on the foot and kicking. -Judo starts you off on the oriental wrestling styles first, and when you get your black belt, it is then when you start learning striking techniques like in Karate and Taekwondo Here's some more info of places for taekwondo if you're interested: More common schools for taekwondo follow under 3 organizations WTF (World Taekwondo Federation), ITF (International Taekwondo Federation), and ATA (American Taekwondo Association) WTF and ITF, to be straight forward, are legit. They have real schools, and they focus on the sport aspect of taekwondo. You would learn techniques for tournaments to be able to compete in, and actual self techniques that are useful in any situation. ATA basically is Awful Taekwondo Association. They hand out belts like candy, they do not allow other students at tournaments, and they are totally secluded from WTF and ITF. Their techniques are really bad, and the common black belt you would see running around is probably 9 that is dancing around.

It is not late for nothing if you have the strong wish and will to do it, to achieve it. By the way, you are truly young. Karate is great choice. Go boldly ahead! Best of luck!

Never too late. My mother in law took up kickboxing at 48... she's doing well too from what I understand.
Great exercise for you too, I'd say go for it!
