Wow, a lot of fantastic advice from some of the other answerers, but I'd like to add in a few extras to "sweat it out" (sweating is an excellent way to elminate toxins from the body):
- Fresh ginger root tea: get a fresh root, cut an 1/2-1 inch worth per cup into thin slices and boil in water for about 10 minutes. Keep drinking or sipping through the day until you being to sweat.
- Raw onion: For head cold specifically, put sliced raw (preferably organic!) onion on bread and eat. The compounds which cause onions to make you cry also cause stagant fluid to move.
I usually do the above, combined with loading up on raw garlic and vitamin c (tablets, not orange juice - every tsp of sugar you take in slows your immune system down). I also put some boiling water in a bowl and inhale essential oils or herbs, such as eucalyptus.
While I'm not a fan of standard OTC remedies, it's especially important to get off the whiskey - it will dehydrate you, and what you need most of all is lots of water to cleanse your body.
Best of luck to you and may health return to you soon!

Essiac tea, brewed from the herbs yourself and Cordyceps mushrooms, most health food stores carry these, drink the tea 2-3 ounces 3 times a day and take 2-3 capsules of the cordyseps 3 times a day, continue about 4 days after you seem to be better. Essiac boosts the immune system and the cordyceps is specifically for the chest and congestion. Vicks vapo rub is good so continue with that. If the air around you is dry, use a vaporizor or humidifyer when you sleep.

First you need to stop sipping whiskey to try and get rid of a chest cold.
Most cold will last as long as they need to, nothing you do will make it go away. mostly you might make yourself feel a little better.
Grandma alway said if you are sick the first think you need to do is change your bedding. Pillow cases sheets and blankets. If you can open a window when you are not in the room. To 'let' out the cold germs.
If you are brushing your teeth every day either change your tooth brush or boil it.
Always remember the Lysol. Spray everything in the house.

You are too late.
You should have tried sweating it out when you first had the beginnings of the symptoms.
When I feel the first sign of cold (head or chest) I head straight for the tub to take the hottest bath that I can stand and drink herbal tea.
Then I go straight to bed and cover myself with as many blankets I can and sweat it out.
I don't seem to get sick after that.
Provided that you drink alot of water and juices while you sweat it out.
To answer your question........... I guess I would try actual lemon in your weak tea or just hot lemon juice and oranges (containing vitamin C) and consult your Dr. incase of Bronchiotus or Pnemonhhea settling in.
Provided when you sweat that you drink plenty of water and juice.

Go to Walgreens and get 2 things.
Cold-Eeze and Airborne.
Airborne works best when you take it just when you feel you're getting sick. Cold-Eeze helps get you over it faster, but again, works best when you take it immediately when you start to feel sick.
Even though you're past that first stage, you can still benefit from either of these products or both of them. I ususally use them together for the greatest benefit.
Both are natural products with zinc. The Airborne has coneflower in it, as well, which is an immune system booster.

Oh the miseries of having a cold! My family and I are big believers in Nyquil, so maybe you just need more time (it's only been 2 miserable days, right?) So keep up what you've been doing and I hope you are feeling better soon! God bless!

I do not know if you like this but try it.
Cut 5 pods of garlic in to thin and small and put it in a cup. Pour of boiling water. Just quarter cup. leave it for 15 minutes and drink it before you go to bed.
Or
3 tablespoonful of coriander seeds
3 black pepper
5 pods of garlic
water
In a pan put the coriander seeds.Roast it for 2 minutes on the fire. Pour water, add black pepper garlic and boil it until the water turns to dark brown. Strain the water into a cup and add sugar.
Take this before going to bed. Repeat it 3 times a day.

Try TheraFlu for night time. It works great. A little whiskey is fine but you have to drink it in hot tea with lemon. Chicken noodle soup is also very good. That is one old wives tale that is true. In between times of sleep drink OJ and water. Sleep is a must. Hope you feel better.
