Anything you could use a drafting or mechanical drawing skill for can be done with Autocad.

Here are some fields that use CAD regularly:

Manufacturing
Conceptual Design
Architectural
HVAC
Plumbing
Fire Protection
Electrical Trades
Cartography

Bottom line, if it can be drawn for the purposes of industry, Autocad can draw it. Although it's not the only program out there for this purpose, it is one of the most widely accepted.

P.S. I noticed you were at 999 points... I thumbed up one of your answers to push you over the 1000 mark. Welcome to level 3!

I make about $80,000/year designing homes. But I also use AutoCAD for the following:

1. Making maps
2. Making 24"x36" coloring pages for my kids (they LOVE that)
3. Laying out furniture (to scale) in rooms, which is easier than actually moving things, just to discover they don't fit.

AutoCAD is absolutely limitless... but very difficult. Of the hundreds of commands that can be used, I only use about 20 on a regular basis. However, I am only using about 10% of the program, so that makes sense.

I use it for land surveying applications, but in my spare time, I make 3d models of different things just for fun. I have some 3d files that I have generated left eye and right eye views for realistic 3d viewing. I'm about to invent something that will enable "normal" people to view the images without having to cross their eyes, but I can view the 3d without any optical aids.
