Mathematics is abbreviated as MATH in North American countries whereas in Britain, Australia, Ireland and many Commonwealth countries, it is shortened to MATHS.

There is no actual difference in the definitions of the two- the spelling just depends on what country or part of the world you're from.

Similar to the spelling of words such as 'centre' and 'metre'.

Your geographic location. In US, it's "math" in England it's "maths". I don't know why, its just that way.
