Work@ a concert venue, when the public are late, they blame traffic, car parks etc, etc. Why not be honest and hold their hands up and say ok its my fault! Instead the poor chap or chapess on the door gets a full blown account, about the useless signage, traffic, the city signs etc etc. Really does my head in, but you have to be polite and sympathise with them. AAAAArgh!!!!!

It's much easier to blame someone or something else.

Because some of those people might be right.

In a busy urban area, it is the government's job to mark streets in some sensible way, to have road signs, to have a detour sign up before you get to a blocked off dead-end alley, etc. I use Mapquest and a regular road map and I still have problems when signs are missing, unexpected construction closes an exit, or your city closes a public road or garage without telling me what the alternate choice is.

I ended up buying an expenive GPS. Guess what? The maps are only as current as the public maps the government puts out. When a new road goes in it may take years for that update to go into effect. I've also followed the GPS to find out the road it says exists is marked only by a short strip of pavement to where a bridge used to be! LOL

I think they give you the big story because they are embarassed they're late and they're trying to make you understand they did not intend to be late. You just need to nod your head and pretend like you understand, and then move on to the next person.

People are late because they have no respect!
They have a time to be there - say, 6pm and they set that in their head as the time that they LEAVE THEIR HOUSE!

I have watched and wondered just like you and that is what I have found.

It truly is maddening, and the bad part is you cannot yell at them or curse them. They are in their own mindless, thoughtless whirlwind.

If you said anything to them at all, this is the type of people who would say you are picking on their poor little innocent souls! Here they are, so 'put upon' by their stressful circumstances, and now you - mean person - are adding to their woe!

Don't you just one time wish you could say, "That is all - GO BACK HOME!! "
Bless your heart (and your blood pressure!)

You have me sympathy as you sound quite wound up about it. You're doing well if you can keep up the smiling and agreement (my face always shows what I'm thinking). We live in a blame culture, sadly. I find people who know their own foibles, the sort who just give you that flustered look, roll their eyes and say "I'd be late for my own funeral me", a lot more endearing.

It's called responsibility and no one wants to take it. It is easier to blame something or someone else. Then you don't look so....oh put in an adjective... and it is a lie.....I think it is getting easier for people to lie as well.....amazing really...just go somewhere else mentally and just keep nodding your head...hopefully they won't ask you a question...lol...

I am very rarely late, and on the odd occasion I am late it usually is because of some unforseen traffic hold-up or a delayed train.
