I think that it is about you being afraid of the embarrasment of making mistakes and sounding "foolish." Just go for it...everybody walks before they run.

Don't feel intimidated by not being able to speak fluently. There are so many dialects here in the U.S. that alot of people speak differently even though they can read and write English. I am born and raised in Texas. Some people say I must be uneducated because of the way I talk. They have never been to Texas. Who ever made the rules of expectation was only one person or a few persons opinion. Feel confident and speak proud the U.S. is many people from around the world and we can all be proud of our heritage and speak with our own dialect.

The only way to learn to speak English fluently is do it; speak your heart out, speak English whenever you have the chance; OH yes, - and listen to BBC World for the correct pronunciation.

A decade ago to learn English, you had to attend costly English classes or purchase course material like tapes and books. Now you can learn English for free from the comfort of your home using the internet. The BBC and the British Council offer a number of online courses which teach written and spoken English. You can also improve your English by watching television programs and reading English newspapers. For more information, visit http://tinyurl.com/qnzpt

Practice. If possible, go to an English speaking country. Total immersion will work. Study, work or even just travel in an English speaking country. Practice by any means possible.

Have u thought about using ur reading/ writing skills to help you with this?? try finding a creative writing course and learn how to put good sentences and imaginative phrases together. This would 'rub off' on ur speaking skills with time.

A philosophy question indeed.
You can speak more fluently only by exercise.

You just need to find a person or people who you can converse with. Or get a language program and listen to how the instructor is speaking, and try to emulate how he sounds.

i have the same problem with french language. when you are in the environment where the language is being used by everyone else it's a lot easier. you just have to try to communicate no matter how hard it seems. good people will be patient with you and realise that it's not your first language
