Well tobacco advertising hasn't been banned from print-yet. In April 1970, Congress passed a law banning the advertising of tobacco products on television and radio starting on January 2, 1971. This was done to stop the promotion of something which is bad for society as a whole.

It all started one KOOL morning when Mr. PHILIP MORRIS was walking down CHESTERFIELD lane. He met up with a miss VIRGINIA SLIM.They went to the RALEIGH hotel in WINSTON SALEM.
They climbed into an OLD GOLD bed.She looked like a CAMEL in nine months .It was a LUCKY STRIKE.
Since that time tobacco has been banned from ads.
The people in this story are fictional and any reference to anyone real,is strictly coincidental.

i think it was only a few years ago like 1999 or something? the reason for banning it was due to the risk of cancer!

Don't know when, certainly it was to prevent people from becoming smokers. You know how influential advertising can be.
