Conventionally,
- Chief Executive Officer (CEO); if no CEO,
- Chief Operations Officer (COO); if no CEO and no COO,
- Chief Technology Officer (CTO); if none of the above in techonology based companies; and lastly
- Chief Finance Officer (CFO); if none of the above to make sure finances are kept in check.

Depends on control of a corporation, in other instances,
- Shadow Director, the person controlling the CEO and /or the Board of Directors;
- A proxy shareholder or proxy Director appointed to the Board by another corporation, who has control over how the company should be run in instances like Venture Capitalist (VC) and corporations under judicial management (JM).

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is at the top of a corporation. He's answerable to the Board of Directors that look out for the owners, who are called stock holders, interests. A corporation is owned by stockholders which can be one person but is usually hundreds or thousands of people.
