Definitely Nathan's. I don't live in NY anymore or get back to Long Island much, but I always tried to get to the one in Hicksville on the Island for a hot dog fix. Thankfully we can get them packaged in our grocery stores.
They may not be the best junk food in the world for you, but sometimes you've just got to have one, especially slathered with mustard and/or sauerkraut and/or relish. The people in WV ruin theirs by putting chili on it. They use cheap hot dogs so at least if all you're going to taste is tomato sauce and hamburger not too much damage is done. Even worse is in NM where they put green chile on them. Hot dogs were meant to have sauerkraut and relish and ok, sometimes really fresh chopped onions.

Try Thumann's ... I was surprised by how good they are. Hebrew National are excellent, too. Formerly I would have said Nathan's, Sabrett's or Bests, but Thumann's and HN changed by opinion. Yum!

Nathan's is great for New Yorkers....where I am originally from..but PORTILLOS has the best chicago style hotdogs. Chicago style include a vienna beef hot dog with mustard, relish, onions, sliced tomatoes, kosher pickle and sport peppers....They will also ship anywhere in the US if you would like to try a true chicago style dog. 1-866-986-beef.

Pink's hotdogs in LA. Mmm, so yummy and worth the 30 minute wait in line!
I also like Sonic's chili cheese coneys. They are a little messy and quite filling, but I think it's okay to splurge every once in awhile! ;)
And, I can't forget about Wienerschnitzel. They're inexpensive and tasty; hard combination to beat!

Pinks in Hollywood CA. Only ate at pinks once, but it was good. They have all kinds of hot dogs like the Martha Stewart dog, Rosie O' Donnal has a dog, and many more celebrities have a hot dog named after them.

Hey Philbo,
Exact opposite for me.
1). Hebrew National
2). Nathans
3). Dodger Dog (It's made by Farmer John - I know what's in their meat).
(I'm talking about the dog without the fixings! If you are talking about adding the fixings, then my first vote is for Lums!)
James in San Diego
P.S. I heard that Teds in New York was closing on these pages ?
