In the Christian tradition, for better karma in Japanese and Feng-shui in Chinese, it's advisable to sleep with the head facing east and the feet turned towards west. This is the sunwise (facing the sun) position.

The opposite of this or reversed position ,i.e. west to east with the head turned to the west and the feet turned to the east. This is the position of the dead. The belief is that when the archangel Gabriel sound his trumpet, it's easier for the dead to get up, on his feet .He doesn't have to turn around. It is a contention belief not to point the foot of your bed towards the door.Again the dead position. That is south facing north.

It all depends on the lay-out of the bedroom. It's conceivable as long as the foot of the bed doesn't face the door. Suffice to say that for the living, it's a east to west position. I found a lot of articles on this. There are lots of sites to support this. It's just too many to enumerate.
