can any body simply explain the technics of making stained glass art?

Not really, and really confused myself because I shopped at J.C. Penney's today and bought 2 Dale Tiffany lamps...really small ones with actual full painted glass...but found that the larger Dale Tiffany lamps were rolled glass art....felt like plastic!!!!
