What has taken you so long to install Sp2? you say now can get Internet to work, could you be more specific about any problems you are having, for now anyway just uninstall modem drivers and restart computer then re_install ,Sp2 should not affect Internet access

sp2 is a major upgrade by anyones standards, but its well worth it,its the backbone of windows xp security, advising you when any security breaches are detected
sp2 changes lots of settings in windows during installation, including dll files responsible for the running of programs and applications in xp
what i think has happened with you is you have a corrupt file in your sp2 installation,so what you should do is go direct to microsoft and download the sp2 from there, you will find it at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=049C9DBE-3B8E-4F30-8245-9E368D3CDB5A&displaylang=en
this version of sp2 is the saame as the update version but is beter as you can burn this file to disk,so to keep to hand for any re-installations in the future
be warned....sp2 will take around 15 minutes to install, and once completed you will need to restart
good luck

You mean you can't get internet to work ?

What exactly do you mean ? what errors are you seeing ? this could be caused by all manner of things. Check through settings.
