I bought a printer today, & it will print when I ask it to do a test print, but other than that it won't. I do have the software for it. What's going on?

well, check first that u installed its USB into the CPU then turn it on, I think u'll need itd software in order for the computer to recognize the new hardware ..then move on through the steps to complete its installation. When u open word select File >> Print and then choose the name of ur printer from the combobox, i think it will print successfully hopefully:)

Go to "Printers and Faxes" in the control panel. Set your new printer as the "Default". See if that helps! Did you load the drivers to your computer off of the Cd that came with the printer?? You need the drivers AND set the printer as the default printer for the printer to work. Don't lose that Cd if you can help it! You may need it again someday.

depends what make ur printer is but the normal proceudre is for yo uto instal. the software you got with ur printer before plugging it in and then it will eventually tell u to plug the cable in adn when u do so it will detet the hardware and then install it. after everytihng is done (you even might hav eto restart),. mkake sure that u select that specific printer as the efualt printer in the contorl panel options. good luck

did you set it to default?

Go to start
control panel

click on the desired printer
set it as default by pressing on the default given on the left top corner.
