Make sure you have a good base to stop the colour creasing and looking nasty, I know this I have to battle with it myself even after makeup training in my old job! Use a little concealer or light foundation, just a tiny bit on your eyelids should do, then dust lightly with powder, this should create a nice smooth matte base.
Definitely go for an eyeshadow brush for applying the main colour especially! A nice broad one should give smooth even coverage, and maybe invest in a smaller angled one for corners of eyes, brow bones etc. Even though you can use an applicator for these areas, the brushes gives a smoother much more professional finish!

Also it is necessary to ensure the eyeshadow colour suits you, e.g lilac is good for green eyes, you can find charts with information like this all over the net!

Hope this helps :)

According to my girlfriend (I'm no cross-dresser!) you need to make sure the eyes are moisturised, apply concealer, then a light dusting of translucent powder (this will keep the eye shadow on all day) and always apply the base colour with a sponge applicator and the darker colour in the crease of the eye with a brush. Build the colour up in layers not all at once. (She's an ex-beauty consultant who has worked for Chanel / Clinique / Virgin Vie and Max Factor). Oh and by the way, if you see the tip above: By applying powder with your finger, you are transferring the oils from your finger into the eyeshadow, hence it will stay on your finger tips and not be applied to the eyes correctly, surely an 'expert in make-up' would know that.... Good luck!

make sure u use a brush, it gives a better finish....first use eye concealer, to minimize crease and to make it last waaay longer..then put a base colour on..which is like a shimmer which is roughly the same colour as your skin....then apply your colour to the outer half of your eye, i.e half of eye closer to your ears!..and never use to much, it becomes a mess!! :)

use a proper eye shadow brush, more expensive but much better in applying. maybe the color doesn't suit you? go to makeup stands in department stores and pretend you're interested in their eye shadows and ask them to try them on you and whilst that ask questions about how to apply them. hope these helps.

if you use very little and strech your eye towards your forhead up then apply it to where you see the crease, apply under that and blend up. Use a little white under eyebrow and it will give demention.

Eye shadow is so sexy. Try blue or green. Each person does it different. Don't worry.
