Needs a new carborator job, new spark plugs or you need a tune up. You might need to just bury it. It also could be bad gas, with water in it. If it does it all the time it probally is one of the above.

Dont listen to these fools... A 77 can run just a strong as day one with some know how... First, is it cutting out the elestrical or is just the motor dieing?? .. U need to give us a bit more detailed info so we can think this one over... The good thing is that a 77 is easy to figure out and repair ... Update with some details with more info on your problem!! Peace out...

Hills are probably an in built phobia for your 77 Toyota. Have you tried giving it a spliff LOL?
If not try Red-ex that tends to work just as well. Plooms of black smoke but tends to clear out the crap.

you need to tune up your old toyota.
if you still love that old car, find replacement parts.
i think you need a new carb and maybe all of the major parts of the engine. you have to spend a lot on that thing.
consult an expert mechanic about it.

Because it was built in 1977 and it's now 29 years old.
It will be hard for anyone to tell you why, beyond that, without more information. ;)
