Two mathematicians are walking around town one day. The first mentions that today is a special day for her, as all three of her daughters are celebrating their birthday today. The second mathematician is a great problem solver, and asks if she can have some hints to guess the daughters' ages. The first mathematician agrees, and gives the first hint:
"The product of their ages is 36."

The second mathematician thinks for a minute, and says that she needs another hint. After a little bit of thought, the hint is given:
"The sum of their ages is equal to the number of windows on this building."

The second mathematician can see all of the windows on the building, and accepts the hint. However, she says that she still doesn't have enough information, and asks for a third hint:
"My oldest daughter has blue eyes."

The second mathematian is now able to figure out the answer, and says the ages of the daughters.

What are the daughters' ages?

For examle, if you think that the daughters' age are 2,3 and 4, enter 234 as the answer (in ascending order).

229.

36 has factors 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 9, 12, 18, and 36. There are many sets of three of these that multiply to 36: 1x1x36, 1x2x18, 1x3x12, 1x4x9, 1x6x6, 2x2x9, 2x3x6, 3x3x4, so of course the second guy needs another hint.

The sums of the triplets listed above are 38, 21, 15, 14, 13, 13, 11 and 10. We don't know the number of the windows on the building, but if it were anything but 13, the second guy would now know the answer, since there would only be one possibility. Since he doesn't know the answer yet, the answer is 166 or 229.

The first guy has an oldest daughter, but 166 requires twins in the position of oldest. One would be like 20 minutes older than another and wouldn't ordinarily be described as "oldest". That leaves only one possibility: 229.

The problem that I see is that there is still an unstated peramiter in this statement. The part with the windows on the building suggests that there is a specific number that you are to achieve. Without the number being stated, there is an open ended question with only on peramiter. The three ages whos pruduct is 36. That could be a simple as 2*3*6=36. With that, the numbers of windows would have to be 11 for that answer to work.

Now, you can say 1*6*6=36 and that would make the windows in the building 13. And who is to say that the daughters are all young? 1*1*36=36 would be an appropriate answer, leaving the number of windows to 38.

Without the statement, there is no way to give a 100% accurate answer. The best you can do is guess.
