Why is it that people are cruel? Not just here on Yahoo Answers, but in life. I have been lucky, both here on Yahoo and in real life. Just to give you an example: I was down town the other day, and I noticed a group of teen boys, making fun of a women because she was obese, and they told her that there should be a law against someone as ugly as she is being aloud in public. They horrast her to the point that she left in tears. I felt that was uncalled for. Why do you suppose people are that cruel?

g_man, I am 38 years old, and there was a GROUP of teens. While in my mind I am still 20 years old, that is just not the case. Do you really think they would have listened if I spoke out against what they was doing?

I think it's because the world is on its last wave. There is much less need for philosophers, sages, idealists and people of character, and compassion, and more a need for those who will tear the world apart from the inside out, who will not mind destroying everything good bit by bit in the name of some agenda that people would rather be a part of than be considered out side the loop. It seems less people are born who think for themselves, and live and let live, and are curious about their fellow man and the world they live in, and are instead shallow, silly, and cruel. The weak and stupid are allowed to tell our stories and be the face of our existence now.
Wish I could say some day the grown ups will trash PCism and take the control out of the bad child’s hands, but I don't think it will happen. The world will never be a great place to live, mankind will never know peace and the chances of all people agreeing on anything, much less a positive thing, are nil to none.
Sounds bleak maybe, but I still love life and watching people. Maybe it's because I was raised in a sarcastic environment and have answers for those punk a s s little nothings, and the ability to know when they might get violent. They tend to amuse me because I was also raised in a semi violent/dark atmosphere, so this is more interesting and sometimes funny to me than scary. Evolution isn’t always a turn for the higher mind. Eventually it had to turn to the destruction of it’s self.

Well I'm sick, and tired of people using the excuse that "people are cruel that's our nature, were predators"...when are we going to be big enough to take responsibility for our own actions, each person chooses to act how they act, no one has a gun to their heads telling them to act this way...i wonder where is the backbone, or substance that we suppose to have in this time, that we can behold whatever we see, and not follow the multitude who thinks that just because someone is fat, gay, black whatever, or who does not fit the orthodox view of what is "beautiful People"...that someone can feel it's their God given right to intimidate, say cruel things, break another person's spirit, all because it makes them feel okay...i believe there is consequences for all of our actions...it's called Karma.

Young, primate men often view life as a matter of Us and Them. This is a hard-wired behavior that the more observant of us will work on reducing, but is still a major factor in human behavior. Some people will never grow out of this polarized view of life and struggle with it throughout life. Others learn better and regret their cruelness. It is part of the human nature that we must overcome in order to better ourselves as sentient beings.

I think it's because of their own low-self esteem. By making others feel worthless they hide their true identity / real feelings. Maybe somewhere along the way they got robbed of their sense of self. Maybe someone was cruel to them and this is their way of dealing with the pain. It's no excuse, I know it's merely a defense mechanism to hide what they are really feeling...

Some people are just sick and also because other people tolerate it. The kind of behaviour you mentioned should be punished legslly. It probably would have done no good challenging the behaviour of thesev yobs but a few words of comfort to their victim might have been welcomed.

Those boys have no real home life where they felt loved, so they take out their aggression on others. As the saying goes, Misery Loves Company! They are miserable so they want others to be the same.

I say they are uneducated and have no family morals. My Family taught me better than to make fun of people. Honestly I think family has a big thing to with all the nastiness in the world.

I don't know why people are like that. It's horrible. Maybe it's because they were not treated good themselves? Maybe they think that if they make fun of someone else, that it will make them feel better about themselves. It's rotten and people shouldn't be that way.

they are cruel, because they have their own insecurities. these insecurities are created from the way the were raised. it might not be that visible, but they are definitely there. karma works in weird ways, i.e ( teen boys making newspaper headlines for dying in an alcohol related crash)
