I know what you mean. I've always been straight with people and in my point of view that means people know where they stand with me. In other peoples eyes I'm offensive and there for probably not a nice person, but that's not the case. Why ask if they don't want to know the truth and why am I expected to keep my mouth shut if my opinion of something differs with theirs?? Crazy. I got in trouble at school once for saying I didn't believe in God and religion because there's not enough proof for me, so much for free speech eh?

There is a difference between a straight answer and a rude one. People have amazingly bad manners. "Keeping it real" always seems to mean, I'm going to be rude as hell and dare you to not like it. Most situations are fine to use tact, but most societies have to many people who can't handle any other people than the ones that act the same as they do, so the truth is always seen as a personal slight.

Almost everyone has a raw nerve or two & almost all of us will at some point react from gut feeling, even if we cannot rationalise what we feel.
This may not help debate, but its part of the whole mechanism of passion that makes people give a sh*t.

i think people sometimes feel embarresed or ashamed when they have to think about things and face up to the truth.i think the whole peadophile preist thing is just disgusting and unforgivable but i dont understand why a catholic would take offence at the mention of it,its not like youre blaming them.

Reality has shown many difficulties to cope with many people, it is hard to live with, so most people created a fake believes and shells around themselves to live more practically, which is the short cut and easy way to their needs, however the results are fake, and don’t last long.

no religion has a monopoly on the best people, churches are for sinners to make themselves better by trial and error. so if they get embarrassed at your question its because they know they have weaknesses like everybody Else, one judges a church by its teachings not by its congregation, who are sinners trying to repent. Children are at the mercy of the example of the adult who is at the mercy of the system which is corrupt and heartless.

People can often be offended if you are asking a sensitive question or are insensitive in the way in which you are asking or sometimes how you word the question.

Several things come into play depending on the question, the sensitivity of the person questioned and even the sensitivity of the person posing the question. Is the question personal, proffessional etc...

It depends on the question. If they're personal questions, it's simply none of your business. If you're going to criticize their answer, of course they'll be offended.

Obviously it depends on the question and how you ask it. You don't give an example so it's difficult to give you a better answer.
