You say you've never done any crafts before - do you sew? Do you at least have a sewing machine? If you do, a keepsake quilt with photos can be done very easily, without too much skill required. As others have said, use the printable fabric (NOT the iron on transfer fabric - it doesn't last as long). You can get it at your local fabric/craft store, like Jo-Ann's or Hancock's. Read the package instructions carefully before you buy - some are better than others as far as washing and fading.
Once you've printed your photos onto the paper (and heat set them, if necessary), you'll need to assemble your quilt. If you've never quilted before, stick with the basics. Sew strips of fabric around your photos, to make a frame, then sew the framed photos together. Add other strips of fabric as necessary to make everything fit. You might want to put a couple of borders around the entire quilt, just to finish it off. If you have quilted before or are a little more adventurous, try using the photo as the center of a larger block, like a sawtooth star or snowball (see link below). Or, you could alternate photos with pieced blocks.
If you've never sewn, and you don't have a sewing machine, you might be better off getting someone else to make it for you. If you have a quilt shop in your area, they can probably put you in touch with someone who can help you.
The last two links are to a completed photo quilt using a picture frame block, and the instructions for the picture frame block.

Since you've never done crafts before, I would suggest you go to your local craft store and get a booklet that explains the process,to see if you are capable of doing it. Since this will be a keepsake, you will want it to be done properly. Perhaps you could co to your local fabric store and see if they could recommend a person that does quilting, that you could pay, to work on this project with you.It may cost you more money, but it would be done properly, and truly be a KEEPSAKE.

the easy way to do it would be to do it as an iron on transfer from your printer - you can usually buy the paper for that from craft stores. the longer lasting way is the quilter way - they sell special stuff where you make a color copy of the picture and then it transfers the copy to fabric, it's not as easy, but it will last longer. you can get that stuff at most fabric & quilt shops (you will most likely have to ask for it - i don't remember the name, but they should know what you are asking for)
it looks really great done as an attic windows quilt - but if you haven't quilted much, it looks good as a simple patchwork also.
good luck!

You can purchase iron-on sheets that can be printed with your computer printer with any photo that you choose, then all you have to do is transfer the iron-ons onto the fabric blocks for your quilt. Also, a neat idea that a friend of mine used for a keepsake quilt for her child was to collect small items such as pacifiers, teething rings, and rattles (etc.) and attach them to the quilt. She also included small clothing items such as booties, mittens, and dresses that her child had outgrown. Her quilt was beautiful and unique when she finished it.

I've done a couple of photo quilts. It's a rewarding project!!! There are several websites that can tell you how to do it yourself or have it made from your photos and your design. Go to any search engine (Google is my all time fav) and type in photo quilt or memory quilt and you will get many choices........

You can buy special fabric squares that can be printed on. I've seen them at Office Depot. They are made to go thru your printer. That way you can print out photos on them and then sew them into your quilt.

I use T-shirt Transfers made by Avery, product #3271, sold at Walmart. The picture, which you've edited in your photo program, is transferred to the sheet. You then iron it on the piece of fabric.
It's for t-shirts, bags, aprons, etc.

well, if youre good with the computer, they make a tshirt transfer paper that you can print onto and then iron it on fabric. Its really neat and I think it comes out looking pretty good. You should be able to find it at any hobby store
