I don't think I am through moving, and you KNOW how heavy books are! I love them but I only buy paperbacks and give them away or trade them - unless they are books so dear to my heart that I can't part with them.
I also keep paperback versions of stuff like Atkins Diet and Back to Eden, etc for reference.
If I ever 'settle down' I plan on having a real room just for books. Nothing does it like floor to ceiling shelves full of hard cover books!
I may die of old age before I get to do it. The older I get, the faster the race!

Depends on the author. If it's an author I don't know so well, I go for the cheaper option. But an author that I absolutely love, or a book that I've come across that is really good, I go for the hardback version. There have been times when I've bought a book in paperback, loved it so much, went out and bought it in hardback. Then I'd pass on the paperback to a friend, spreading the joy of a great story.

Mostly Paperback, although sometimes I will buy a hardback for a book that I want to read sooner and of course now that there are soft backs I will often buy these instead. Prefer paperbacks as they are less unwieldy than hardbacks.

Paperbacks mostly, because the price is cheaper.
But depends how often will I use (or read) the book, if i use it very often, I may consider buying hardback. And if the book is 'collectable', then I may buy hardback too.

I prefer paperbacks as they are easier to fit in my bag and take with me places! Also, they are easier to read (but that does depend on the length of the book!) But sometimes I get too impatient if I am waiting for the next installment - if I know it's out there, then I just have to go and buy it anyway!

MINH, I used to purchase paperbacks for an identical reason you do--they cost much less and with suitable care, they final an exceptionally long term. Hindsight is staggering, nonetheless. i became into incorrect. i did not end taking area in the books i stumbled on in my older toddlers and youthful grownup years--yet i stumbled on by potential of my mid-1940s that i could not longer examine paperbacks with the completed ease and convenience of my youthful years. Rereading my reproduction of an previous famous is now not common. Oh, i can nonetheless examine them--even nonetheless it takes solid lights and looking out in the process the superb area of my glasses. that's a discomfort, considering the fact that i like to sprawl and droop. even nonetheless, i can nonetheless examine a classic hardcover with my youthful ease. i'm additionally looking that the paper on which paperbacks are revealed does yellow over the years very lots better than the paper used for hardcovers. I even have paperback books from my toddlers that are yellow-brown even nonetheless they have been dealt with.

I agree with you, I tend to go for paper backs, but I would also go for hardbacks if there is a sale or it is a favorite author

I occasionally go for hardcover, if it's a new book by a favourite author. Otherwise, it's all paperback.
This may sound dumb, but I buy primarily paperbacks because of their consistent size. I find them easier to organize on my book shelves, as I sort them alphabetically by author, then title.
