As of 1st October 2006 the minimum wage is £5.35 (not £5.50 as someone else has written)

You will only be allowed to work 20 hrs a week dugin term time but up to 35 during your holidays (on a student visa).

Would suggest you try a waiting job in a restaurant as the hours will suit and you will get to keep at least the cash tips and most probably get the credit card tips added to your wages minus tax.

I don't know about you're job, but most part time jobs in London pay between £5.50 (minimum wage, usually waitering) and £8.50 (factory staff, hard labor)
I'm a student in London, and I work part time as a health care assistant. I earn about £7 an hour.
Be warned, most student visa's only allow you 20hours work a week, so bring enough money with you (London is unfortunately more expensive than the rest of UK) and if you cant find something in you're field, look for a job that involves labor, it will pay the most.
When you land, look around for TNT magazines (you get them free at most stations, backpackers lodges, and most Aussie/Kiwi/South African pubs) The TNT magazine is filled with loads of part time jobs for students.
Good luck and enjoy London!

you will only be allowed to work 20hrs a week on a student visa, although nothing will be said if you work a few more, there are lots of jobs which you could do, waiter, barman, some security companies need part time staff to help out, good luck

NONE, you need a work permit or a working visa. With a student visa you CANNOT legally work in any job
