There is the freedom of vote... If one does not like the government in power, they can go out and say so by voting against said government. In Canada's, and the U.S., it is Harper, and Bush... They either do what is asked of them, and what has to be done, or they get voted out.
B.T.W. ... I recognize that shoddy writing anywhere... You were posing as Mary the other day.
Why can't you understand that There are billions of positions one can take in viewing the world, and that not all people can/will agree on everything... In other words war is going to happen.
These cases cause war; The Have nots want, the haves defend., "I am right, and you are wrong" mentality., An eye for an eye attitude. We won't be seeing world peace for some time yet, because people still have not grasped the importance of each other.
You really need to put yourself in someone else's shoes to get an idea, and no one wants to take the time to. Even you... you are on the right track by asking questions, but your questions always boil down to "Why fight wars?". Instead, try accepting the fact that war is going to happen, and start asking "What made them attack?". America can do the same thing. By both sides asking this question, it causes a moment of thought, from another perspective, which would lead to understanding. Realistically speaking I doubt it could/would happen. But it is true... Now please... No more redundant questions...

P.S. Boo...Do you not have the freedom to say what you just said?... That's what I thought. You have freedom.

Freedom obviously has ambiguous meanings depending of society, culture, dominant political force etc, but currently the dominant meaning is white-middle class - male liberal concept of freedom, precisely - to do things WITHIN the defined structures and models of a given society without harming others. It is not universal nor timeless, but the states in power (like the USA) impose their predefined model of freedom to other countries merely as a vehicle to obtain more power, and in that sense "freedom" is an empty word that nevertheless acts as a powerful political slogan. Freedom, on the other hand, has a history of development in philosophy that is quite different than current dominant concept, far more complex and open to critique then today popular and unquestioned concept in political rhetoric. Soldiers cannot "fight" for freedom because they are not free at all - they are in the function of state's game of power. The state itself is not a guarantee of complete freedom - it is a vehicle to CONTROL freedom, to make limits and propose desired behaviors. There is no thing such as "universal freedom", but there might be a dialog on freedom's meaning in a healthy societies (not many examples unfortunately).

Freedom is an illusion. Freedom would need a foundation in equality of every single person (this doesn't even exist in democratic countries, where the government will always seem to have more perks and rights than the average citizen) and choice to make any decisions (which doesn't exist either because having to choose between any 2 candidates presented at ANY election is like having to choose between sh*t and poop).
So these soldiers are comforting themselves by believing it's a noble goal and they have chosen to do it instead of the truth that they were forced into carrying out the dirty works of some political agenda.
