im watching this movie were algae was sent to mars and it was designed to multiply and produce oxygen on mars is this possible can we actually grow plantlife on mars so that it can produce oxygen and give mars a better atmosphere so we can colonize it?

and it probably be possible to bioengineer algae to grow on their own on mars and create more oxygen plus we can send it using space probes or something we dont actually have to go there robots can doo the job

ok so than we can control the roots from here they dont neccesarily have to be controlled by a computer

ideally, plants would be cultivated in a dome under controlled conditions so we could optimize and undersatnd the complete annual growing cycles possible, robots could not achieve this because they dont have the power to create and alter conditions on the fly as humans could. robots collect information, but cannot extrapolate outside the box.

The important factor here is MONEY. No one will go there to plant algae without a huge bank account to support the trip and ship + fuel.

It would take millions of years for it to work IF it could survive the intense martian winters.
