Thebigtom: Would certainly do it for a charitable cause! Might be a bit of fun?
Trouble is with these morons, give them somewhere to go and they usually trash the place, because they are thugs, and will probably always be so!
Maybe you would care to test the stocks for us?

Or a member of the god squad!

Let's give them money from the taxpayer, give them some great clubs, so they smash them up. Then tell them how naughty they are!

Yes definitely, It would only take one brave Government to pass a law allowing the police to use them. The first 3 days without food & water. Repeated If they mouth off. I would also use the stocks overnight for violent drunks.

I can't help but think that this is quite a good idea; not because I think that revenge is a good thing, or even the vigilante mentality.

It's just that when I was at school, a serious misdemeanour was rewarded with a sharp slap, which didn't exactly cause permanent physical scarring or lasting mental trauma.

Compare this to the alternatives, of police action, interviews, court procedures, name and shame, criminal record etc etc.

A lot of youths is stupid, selfish and badly behaved, and putting them on public desplay and mocking them, would probably be far better than the drawn-out procedures we now see.

It would also be kinder, because the matter could be dealt with quickly and then forgotten.

Do we get to throw rotting eggs and vegetables?

What fun!

ASBO's don't work, many who have an ASBO against them re-offend time and time again. This country is too soft with hooligans, there are too many do gooders and this tends to sway and limit any Government intention of introducing tougher laws to combat the rise in anti-social behaviour.

It is a tried and tested saying "Spare the rod and spoil the child" in other words step out of line in your social environment and "whack" you will know about it and as sure as H**l you will think twice about doing it again.

I think these people should have compulsory attendance at meetings where they are shown the true suffering in the world and have to discuss why they think they have a right to vandalise, intimidate and generally threaten others. Explain to them the actions of their crimes, make them sell their playstations and televisions or work to pay for their damage and actually instill in them a sense that they are not the only people in this world! ASBOs only shift the problem they don't solve it.

Seeing that they are all Cowardly S.H.I.T.S a dose of public humiliation , i e Time in The Stocks , and a Number of stokes with the Birch, in Public, depending on how much Damage and Misery they have caused would bring about miraculous changes in the way these Bastards see life ,, we owe it to the Public to install major changes in the way we treat the scum that create such misery

Im not for stocks - people only feel shame if they respenct others.

What is needed is a proper deterrent for these criminals - time and again they get away with there behaviour - this encourages others.

BIG TOM - should we build a youth club next to your house?

MR SCEPTIC - with a proper deterrent there would be LESS criminals - less young people needlessly in trouble with the law.

Why waste good wood on stocks? Just beat the sh8t out of them.

thebigtom... that's the spirit, that's the attitude that gives society cowardly thugs.

Its a better idea than a stupid, unworkable £100 fine. And don't tell me that youth clubs are the answer. Young thugs are young thugs. The youth club I used to go to was shut down because it was plagued by thugs causing trouble.

Definitely, stick the human rights lawyers in the stocks next to them. Seriously though, I think conscription to the military might be more acceptable but still effective in getting this problem off our streets.

A wonderful idea! Throwing ripe tomatoes or bad eggs at thugs in stocks would keep prisons a little emptier and provide good exercise for the general public, and better entertainment than the usual TV fare. Count me in!
