when scale of a map is given

i.e. 1:25000
means 1 cm on paper :25000 cm on ground

thus if you want to find the actual distance between two points that is 8.6 cm on ground , it means multiply the 8.6 in both side of the scale/ ratio

as 8.6* 1 on Paper : 8.6 * 25000 on ground
or 8.6 on paper : 215000cm on ground
you also can convert 215000 cm into meters or km

If the map scale is 1:25,000
The distance on the map between the two cities is 8.6 cm.
The actual distance on the ground will be:
8.6 cm X 25,000 = 215,000 cm
215,000 cm = 2,150 meters.
2,150 meters = 2.15 km.
2.15 km = 1.335 948 063 mile

8.6cm X 25000 = 215000cm

2150m/1000 = 2.15km
2.15km apart
