I'm 20 and eventually I had to quit (13 or 14 was my last year) because the people giving out candy frown upon us hogging all the candy when they could be giving it to the young children. Well I may be 20 but I still would love to go trick or treating. Maybe I could just make up a lie and say "it's for my sick little sister"? LOL Problem is all of my friends are too CHICKEN to go with me (or out of state). And there's no way in hell I wanna go alone. But I made a really cool Squidward mask and I don't just wanna hand out candy. That's BORING. Being a kid in a grownup body sucks big time.

I'm 43 and I still miss trick or treating. I did it myself for the last time when I was 18 (went with a friend & her baby daughter but I had my bag too). Then when my own kids were old enough to go I took them, and even though I wasn't actually trick or treating anymore it was still fun. Once when I was in my 30s a man who must've been in his 80s gave me candy too. I guess childhood is relative. Now my kids are grown and Halloween just isn't the same anymore. Guess I'll have to wait for grand kids

I felt the same about it as most kids when I was young, but what I miss is giving away the candy. I liked dressing up, decorating the outside front, playing scary sound effects and running black lights, etc.

I live in Asia now, so nobody's into Hallowe'en except for the westerners; the only place they do "trick or treat" here is on US military bases, and I'm not a Yank or a grunt.

But I also had to stop giving away candy the last few years I was living back home, and not because I didn't enjoy it. The reason? Kids don't show respect anymore.

You give them candy, and the kids don't say "Thank you!" anymore. You say to the kids, "What do you say?" After giving it, and some will say, "Fcuk you!" and then run away.

How do their parents or chaperones respond when their kids say "Fcuk you!" at someone's door? They answer, "They're just being kids."

I think you can guess what I said to the parents. They didn't seem to like it when _they_ were the recipients. "Hey, I'm just being a kid," was my response.

When I was young, if you said that to someone at their door, they'd smack you across the ears, drag you home and then your _parents_ would smack you across your ears. The kids took the fun out of Hallowe'en and trick or treat; now I stick to horror stories and films or adult parties with drinks and food.

I went Trick-or-Treating for the last time when I was like 21 or 22.

The key is to go later in the evening. Most cities officially start trick-or-treating time around 5 or 6 PM, and end it around 8 or 9 PM. Me and my friends all went about 8:30. When we got to houses, they were just wanting to get rid of their candy as fast as possible, so it was no big deal to them to give it to us, even though we were older. By then, most people won't care that you're 20; they just don't want the candy around because they'll end up eating it themselves... :)

I go Christmas caroling on Halloween. I'm twenty. Take a few friends. People love it. I always like to start with "We Wish You A Merry Christmas." If you have lots of energy and can keep a straight face you'll even get a fair amount of candy. This really works. It's fun and most people start out confused and end up laughing. End the night with eggnog (Hooray!).

I stopped at 13 too because I felt silly among my "so cool" peers. When I got to college and outgrew the need to be so mature, I hit the trick-or-treats again with other like minded folks.

lol. I miss it too! In my case, there just isn't trick-or-treating around here... what I usually do is go to the store, buy lots of candy, and eat it with friends on halloween night.... try it, it's fun!

I trick or treat at the supermarket. I get plenty of what I want when I want.. Thus halloween can be 24/7 365 for me.
