I'm in college so it's hard to find a job that will work with my schedule, so I'm considering housekeeping. Well the thing is I have a potential customer, but he only want to pay me $75 per cleaning for the whole house. The house is 3,000 sq. ft.and has; 3 bedrooms, 21/2 bathrooms, kitchen, dining room, living room, family room, and a study. My question is do you think $75 is enough for this size home?

LOL no Westroots I don't. It just upsets me when people who have no idea what they are talking about try to give advice. I normally don't talk back to the people who answer my questions. I was just bored last night.

I also cleaned houses while in college; the going rate was $15 per hour. Clean this house the first time on an hourly basis, have the owner establish exactly what is expected each time then see how long it takes you. 5 hours each time? Then $75 sounds about right. Most people want to set a per cleaning rate so that the worker doesn't mess around and take longer when cleaning by the hour, but if you are a fast and complete worker and it takes you longer than the per rate charge, you will be getting ripped off. Also some things are charged differently; like ironing, you should be charging by the piece. Good Luck!

Is the guy messy? I pay my housekeepers 50 bucks.. they don't do laundry and they don't do dishes. It takes them about 2 hours between the two of them. My house is 1,300 square feet. Housekeeping might be better than a part-time job beause you will be able to work around your school schedule. Also... it doesn't "have" to show up for your FAFSA.. so depending on your situation that could get you more financial aid.

Depends where you are.

I am in North NJ... I pay a housekeeper $100 to do that for a 3500 sq. ft. house (4 Bedrooms).

Takes her husband and her 3 hours.

So for 6 man-hours, they make $100.
Assume it cost them $4 in gasoline, and another 1 hour total travel time, are making $12/hour... which is decent.

Also, I pay them cash, so they don't worry about taxes....

So don't go by what others are charging...especially companies as they have overheads: insurance, advertising, office manager, taxes, etc. You really need to calculate what your per hour value is.... and base your decision on that number.

There is no clear cut answer to your question because the value of money is not fixed like most people think it is. How much your money is worth depends on what you did to get it and what you are willing to spend it on.

If you already know what you plan to spend your money on and how much time/energy you are able to devote, you need only compare your prospective income with your expenses and abilities. If you can't cover all your expenses or don't have the ability (ie not enough time, not enough energy or patience), then the answer is a definite "no!"

Um just do $75 dollars worth of work no more than 4 to 5 hours I think. And can I ask something? Do you have more than one personality?

Try boosting the price up to at least $100. It's a pretty big house!

It's hard to find a job that won't conflict your schedule, I know the feeling. So don't let go of the opportunity. He could easily replace you with another person...

No, you should definitely charge more. I'm also a full time college student and find that doing temp work works really well with my schedule plus I get paid very well and weekly.

... Why don't you just get a freaking job at a book store or something? Ever heard of "part-time"? I worked at a restaurant for four times a week and I got paid six-hundred dollars (almost seven). And you are telling me that there is not ONE single job that works with your schedule? o.O
