I see some for sale already-sounds tempting, but I think I'll wait 'til next week.

You really ought to wait until AT LEAST mid october to buy your pumpkin. Especially if you're planning to carve it. It will mold/rot long before then if you arent careful!

It's too early. The day time temps are still in the 70's and 60's and the pumpkins will rot (in the Northeast anyway)

You can buy your pumpkin now, just don't carve it until right before Halloween. Like a couple days before. They mold.
One thing we do is to draw a face on ours with marker, then right before Halloween, we carve that face and put our candle in. I do own the electric jack-o-laterns too so I can have one all season.

a good pumpkin will store for months if kept properly.I've got a pumpkin that i harvested out of my garden in late july and it looks like i just picked it yesterday.it all depends on how its stored. If you wait too late to get one all the good sized and nice shaped ones will all be gone.

I want to wait till it's closer to halloween because it will rot and decay before you cna even carve it. Plus they seem to be cheaper towards the end of the month!
