There's no debating that Dell generates a lot of complaints -- many more than any comparable computer maker, as a recent ConsumerAffairs.Com survey demonstrated. On the other hand, even though the very laptop on which the survey story was written crashed and burned just a day later, our own James R. Hood concedes in To Dell & Back, his arresting tale of being laptopless for a day, that Dell tech support often gets it right.

In its own defense, Dell concedes that it may have some rough edges and doesn't deny that keeping up with double-digit growth isn't always easy. See Dell Discusses Its Growing Pains. OK, but Dell's who-me? response doesn't answer all the questions about those disappearing rebates, questionable sales tactics and its "surprise" loans.

Our advice: read the complaints, consider the defenders' arguments, then ask yourself how much hand-holding you need. We'd say Dell offers good equipment at a great price but if you never want to open the lid of your computer and have no patience with troubleshooting by phone, then you should probably buy a machine from a local geek-owned computer store. Then, when trouble strikes, you'll have a place to go where, as they say, when you go there, they'll have to take you in

Dell Computers ARE in fact the best for the least you want to spend. Then comes (HP/Compaq). Dells support however sux the big one. When they give you tech support, the people are just following steps given to them in a screen and reading the stuff back to you. If you know about computers, and if the person on the phone really knew the computer inside and out, the instructions wouldn't be so robotic. Just follow your trouble shooting guide or if you know enough about computers, you can fix the problem yourself. I recommend to all my friends, they dont get a warranty from Dell but to save their money and try to learn the computer or let one of us IT people fix it for em. The warranties are worthless IMO except for replacing damaged parts or entire units that are defective. Build your own rig. However if you want the best built package, go Alienware. Costs you a pretty penny but comes to you well built.

Stay in school kids. Learn how to type. Everyone does not think Dell computers are a bad choice. Many people actually think they are a very good choice.

in no way attempting is WORSE! because of the fact in case you think of roughly it, you may desire to truthfully attempt some thing new and fail at it real away, yet failing is what helps you study! Failing helps you artwork out a thank you to maximum appropriate the errors! because of the fact if we in no way failed in some unspecified time sooner or later in our lives, for sure each and every little thing we've achieved is only too consumer-friendly for us! and there is quite not something relaxing approximately some thing being way too consumer-friendly for us! think of of this as a video activity. in case you fail at a definite point lots of cases, it is okay, because of the fact as you artwork out further and extra counsel on a thank you to edit what you're doing incorrect, you may desire to purely beat that time! yet once you in no way attempt to beat that time, then once you invite a chum over to play a similar activity and you're hopelessly failing to bypass that time, you would be embarrassed! in case you in no way attempt, you will in no way understand. yet once you fail, a minimum of you would be wanting some power to beat your previous errors! final analysis: in case you do not attempt, you will fail immediately. yet once you attempt and fail, you will ultimately study to get stable at it in case you shop at it.

ok, this is the reason: dell uses a "propietary" powerhookup for its motherboard. because of this, many enthusiast steer cleer, since in order to replace the mother board, you have to replace the power supply, too.
