It is an old fashioned word for them that was used in colonial times. It has connotations that black people are sub human second class citizens - especially in relation to the British empire. For a long time it was acceptable to think this way about black people - it was just the way it was. ***** was another acceptable word for them that was i think meant to be less offensive at one time - more a kind of name of the race. However that too is now considered offensive.
I am not sure when exactly N£$£$% became offensive but in British World War II war time movies i have seen people with dogs called the n word and nobody batted an eyelid.

I think some of you are misunderstanding this question - she is asking where the word originates from - that sounds like a perfectly fair question to me not why shouldn't black people mind being called a N"£$"

This is not a stupid question...you should know the answer! I believe you are refering to the "N word," which is a word used in an derogatory manner towards black people (or dark skinned people). It began around 1619, when slavery first began. The white people in the New World would have used Native Americans as slaves, but they killed them with guns and disease. They needed somebody to enslave, and they started capturing Africans...mostly from West Africa. The white people had to feel that enslaving other people was okay and a good thing, so they started saying (and believing heavily) things like the africans were animals, stupid, dirty, ugly, incapable of learning, and only good for slavery. The term "N..." was a term that is from the Spanish word *****, which means "black." It has always been seen as a nasty word used to humiliate blacks. It is still a nasty word to this day.

Well in actual definition it is a word used to discuss someone who is trash. Lazy, slovenly, etc. And it is rude To more people than just African -American people. It offends me and I am white. When I hear that word It makes me think of hatred and intolerance and human injustice and it makes my hair stand up like a cat looking at a doberman. I cannot even begin to really describe how dispicable that word is. Or how base a person has to be to single out another human being to be their own personal whipping boy simply by virtue of skin color with no thought to the person's character.

What word? If you do not know what the "N" word means, then you obviously have no back ground training. What a stupid question.

****** is a term used to refer to dark-skinned peoples, especially Africans or people of African descent. Its use by other races, particularly white people, is regarded as offensive in most social contexts.

At the time of the Atlantic slave trade, it was a standard, casual English term for black people. The word later became associated with an overt contempt, a racist assumption of inherent black inferiority, making it extremely pejorative.

It's rude to african americans because they don't have since to what the word actually means. It means ignorant. It's rude and offensive because they figure its downgrade of their race and not actually trying to figure out what it is. Because with all honesty I would call a white, hispanic, asian, african, black, etc, a n***** if they are ignorant and stupid.

Okay. All of your family are in chains, made to (I'm sorry) tortured to tend people who are the same as they are. Your sisters are mattresses. Your brothers are hide to make bleed daily. Your mother can only eat after the animals eat and where they have made their bowels. Your father can only see through one eye, he has the other eye in a jar and his back is only suitable to sharpen kitchen knives.
Can't eat , drink, or go where their owners are. THESE owners refer to your family as 'N*gg&rs"
N*W open your little mind and think... at present time when everyone is free, why would we get upset?
Hmmm, the brother or sister you conjured in your mind that I spoke of... is in reality our real family, and they were treated as described and called "N*gg&r" Now ...maybe...honor*respect*forgiveness*...
just
maybe
one of those words will
R I N G in the back of your tiny little mind...
M A Y B E?

Its not rude at all, they call each other it all the time and then when you say it get really angry....they are an ignorant race full of double standards. don't worry too much about it.

The really annoyong thing is when you ask a black person that they can't give you a straight answer that makes any logical sense.
