The Taylor and Maclaurin Series approximates exponential, logarithmic, rational expressions, trig functions etc. by producing a polynomial, which approximates the function in question around a certain neighbourhood. Polynomials are often times easier to work with. Using this series, many irrational numbers such as π, e can also be approximated to any desired level of accuracy. This is how calculators work basically. It doesn't store every conceivable function value in its memory. Instead it approximates it using the methods above. Often, it may be easier to integrate and differentiate polynomials instead of transcendental functions.

1) You take two ones and put them together in this way to indicate the addition.
2) Start from anywhere in 0 ; moving around you come to the starting point only; Symboliclly, this means you have done nothing.

The symbols you mentioned are part of a convention accepted internationally so that we can understand each other. You can change the convention..as you mentioned - for addition and + for subtraction...but no one will understand you. If you say "yes" when the convention says you should say "no" instead, you'd be in a world all your own.

the symbol (+) is called the plus sign...
If we used the plus sign for subtraction we would end up saying "two plus two equals zero" and we all know that is wrong.

You'd be asking the same question no matter what symbol they have. It's just one of those things that you take at face value.
