I love it that some people felt that the question is offensive. The question is clearly "is it? or not?". But many answeres felt the question is offensive, I believe it's because they feel that it is not but they're in denial. Whatever... the quesiton is here, everybody is free to answer it they way he/she likes.

The USA is technically a representative democracy and a republic. A representative democracy is where people elect officials that in turn are supposed to represent them. A republic is where people elect the head of state. In my a opinion, however the US in not a representative democracy because the "representatives" really don't represent us. Furthermore, this country isn't a republic either since the head of state is chosen by electors from the electoral college. Those electors are not obligated to vote for the candidate that wins their particular state. For example, John Edwards received an Electoral vote in the 2004 election even though he was only running for vice president at the time of the election. I guess you could say we're a "conservative" democracy rather than a liberal democracy.

No country as a purely democratic governing body. The US partakes in a republic form of democracy, in which we choose representatives to express our views in the legislature.

Joke if you must, but the reason why people feel as though we are under a dictatorship is because one political party essentially owns all three branches of government. For a while there, we really did forgo checks and balances in the name of security and order.

And proof of why we're a democracy can be best proven by the way that if we don't like something, we have the right to complain about it.

The USA is a Democratic Republic, and yes I believe that it really is.

A republic is a government in which we elect individuals who vote on our behalf.

A direct democracy would mean that every citizen would vote on every issue. Not a feasable option in a country this size!!

I do believe there is some corruption in politics, and many of the big corporations have a louder voice than the average citizen, but I do believe that as a whole, the republic is strong.

If you are an American citizen and asked that question, then I ask you; why and for what for what reason are you still here!

If you are not an American, then go check up on your own government! Tell me if the people are allowed to speak, can they hear what they want or is it controlled? Are your females enjoying all the human freedoms or do you have her enslaved so that you can use your penis and she has no say?

If you are not an American, then I say to you: what ever our government is, it ain"t none of your business! You don't hear or see any of us worried about you or where you came from.

I think that your problem is that you are jealous because we live good!

I believe that Winston Churchill said it best when he said "Democracy is the worst form of government there is; except for all the others."

It has problems, sure. If you don't like it, why don't you offer some suggestions on how to fix it?

Well on paper it is. But, it does not fell like a Government for the people by the people. It fells like a goverment for the rich and wealthy or the Corporation. I know we are free in america but it does not always fell like it. Also the american dream is still alive in my oppinion but, on life support hooked to machines.
