It is upsetting that they (our U.S. government) has already started building the wall, without voters approval, now they need funds to complete the 700 mile wall at the south USA border, so our neighbors and friends can't come and do the dirty work for us? (not to even speak about the fact that the border is over 2000 miles) I think we should have had a vote. It's ALREADY being built, the vote in 2006 is to get more money. I'm pissed, I hope all Americans are too. Ron Couch, Riverside CA.

So what.
If you cross the boarder legally then the wall means nothing.
And think back to the great depression. Those dirty jobs are all that kept people in this country fed. And if you look in yoour history books, the latins were kicked out of the country back then. Our first obligation is to employ workers with citizenship. Those without come second.
And believe me, I would have no qualms doing those jobs myself. I am disgusted with anyone who thinks hard work is dirty or beneath them.
If you want to help your neighbors to the South, sponsor them and make them legal immigrants, that way they can get paid what they are worth, instead of exploiting them because they will work cheap. I have known many a person who has received citizenship only to be put out of a job because they cost to much to pay them what they are worth.
All that wall does is send the message that you should use the gate.

The reason liberal democrats voted for the fence is because in a vote of U.S. citizens more than 75% of them would be in favor of a fence (or a wall).
Mexico may be a neighbor, but it is not a friend, and illegals are not cheap labor. In fact, they are very expensive labor when you add in health care, prisons, schooling and welfare. However, they are mostly doing "cheap" unskilled work, which we could do without, and which does not justify the more than $15,000 per illegal Mexican "worker" now in the U.S. which it costs the legal American citizens. Then there are the economics of sending large quantities of money to another country.
Among legal U.S. citizens not having the fence built is what pissed them off. Now we need the next 1,000 miles to the extent the Rio Grand doesn't make crossing impossible.

Please take a civics and government course. You have voted by voting in your senator and representative. They represent your vote. If you do not like what they are doing, vote against them in the next election. While the border is much longer than 700 miles, the fence will be built to cover the most likely areas that are breached. There has been some fence erection going on, but it is unrelated to this bill that passed in congress.

No, before each little thing the Berlin Wall became designed to keep East Germans in, no longer keep West Germans out. so, what's your suggestion, putting up a sturdy brick wall with mine fields and device gun positions alongside the total border with Canada and Mexico? The Berlin Wall easily did have mine fields and device gun positions. Even then, the Berlin Wall only decrease down on crossings, it did not supply up them altogether. Is that extremely the shape of united states of america you opt for to stay in?

Your assumption is false. They DO have the approval of the voters. Elected representatives voted for the funding and in a representative democracy that is as close as you will get to voter approval.
YOU think there should be a vote? Boo Hoo!

I live on the border. The fence idea is stupid. They are coming in through sewer/water drains. does ANYONE (except politicians) think that a FENCE can stop them?? Ha Ha Ha, All the more power to them. I wish more Americans had the drive and intestinal fortitude that they have. We all would be better off... PS how will the american animals get to the water???
