Well, I'm not certain I understand. Many people might otherwise ask, "What are the benefits of dancing." In this case I could answer a whole list of facts. Dancing is great exercise. It's a fantastic way of expressing the self. It is an art form, the only art form of sorts where the art is exclusively made with only the human body. Dancing is a form of body language that communicates interest or disinterest in sexuality between parties. It is a method of more deeply FEELING music without the use of substances. Dancing is a freedom. Dancing is great for balance. Choreography is great for muscle memory and actual memory. Group dance is an ultimate form of unison teamwork. Dance illustrates cultures. Movement alone is a form of comfort. The list goes on and on.

In the event that I've misunderstood, and you truly meant to ask, "What are the VALUES of dance," that's a trickier question. People have values. Groups of people like religious orders share values. Inanimate objects and concepts do not have values of their own. So, looking at it like this, while we can say dance has value, we cannot say that dance has VALUES.

On the other hand, DANCERS, as a group, while bringing together all the values, beliefs and concepts of their individual upbringings into a melting pot of thought processes, also collectively add values inherent to THE DANCE to their practice. One of these, for example, might be believing that dance is derived from an inescapable sexual nature making ALL movements, positioning and tableau, bar none, fodder for their choreography while simultaneously understanding that these same components do not actually MEAN sex in any way, only the freedom of dance.

I'm not kidding, once I went on a diet, and for exercise every night I put on the most disco-y, dance music I could find and danced until I was sweaty and exhausted in my living room. I lost 60 pounds in about a year and had a bunch of fun.
