I have to clarify, it's SATA 3.0Gb/s(or SATA II to some vendors) and SATA 1.5Gb/s(or SATA I to some vendors).
SATA 3.0Gb/s could really be use in SATA 1.5Gb/s motherboard but you should properly set the jumper of the rear of the HD, otherwise you won't find it. The purpose is to downgrade it to the 1.5Gb/s transfer rate level.
That means, your 3.0Gb/s HD will only run at 1.5Gb/s on that mobo.
