It means that for any point x,y on the graph, there is another point at -x, -y. A "V" shaped graph with vertex at the origin is symmetric about the y axis, but not symmetric about the origin. However, an "X" shaped graph that crosses at the origin, is symmetric about the origin. It is also symmetric about the x axis and the yaxis.
